When you submit your application, you will be assigned a time slot. You must arrive 5 min before your judging time for line-up. You must also have your paperwork with you. The costume showcase is from 7pm-8pm Saturday. You must arrive at 6:50pm outside the Main Events room for line-up. Rules Everyone participating in Otonadakecon’s Craftsmanship Costume Contest must have a badge. Their costumes and props must adhere to Otonadakecon’s rules and weapons policy. Contestants may participate in both the Craftsmanship Contest and the Sexy Contest. But will only be eligible to win one singular award. Anyone who is found cheating or misrepresenting work they claim to be their own will be disqualified. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Participants who are unruly will also be disqualified. Contestants must have made at least 60% of their costume from scratch. A contestant may have another person model their costume, but the contestant must be present for judging and the award ceremony. If a costume has previously won a major award it is not allowed for re-entry. If the costume is not an original design then reference pictures are required, a physical copy does not have to be submitted but at the very least a digital copy needs to be provided (i.e. show the judges your reference on your phone). Work in progress pictures are not required but strongly recommended. Contestants who have large or complicated costumes are allowed to have one handler backstage and/or onstage, but no one else will be allowed backstage without prior approval. No AI will be allowed in any capacity. This includes AI reference photos, AI generated sewing patterns, AI generated 3D file models etc. Judging Criteria The costume will be judged on a criteria of accuracy, craftsmanship quality, and variety of techniques. Areas of techniques include but are not limited to: foam work, sewing, wig styling, embroidery, makeup application, millinery, cobbling, leatherworking, 3D printing, painting etc. Please be aware that the judges will be looking at your costume up close and be prepared for them to ask you to flip seams and touch parts of your costume. If you are uncomfortable with the judges examining your costume up close, please make the judges aware and they will go over alternative options on how to showcase your craftsmanship to them. Awards As of this time there will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Awards are subject to change as we adjust for entry numbers and level of craftsmanship submission. If there is an overwhelming amount of submissions, awards will be adjusted to follow standard craftsmanship award structure of Master, Journeyman, and Novice based on prior experience and prior awards. Additional minor awards may be added such as judges choice, best prop, honorable mention etc.
